Storefronts that convert — not just storefronts that exist.
We design and build ecommerce websites across Shopify, WooCommerce, and custom headless stacks — choosing the platform based on your catalog complexity and roadmap, not default.
(01) The short answer
Ecommerce website development covers the build of an online store — product catalog, checkout, payment processing, and the performance work that keeps it converting under real traffic. Cortexley's ecommerce builds span Shopify and Shopify Plus for standard and high-growth retail, WooCommerce for content-heavy stores, and Next.js headless builds where the roadmap genuinely requires it.
(02) Cost & timeline
A custom ecommerce website on Shopify typically costs £2,000–£7,000 and takes 4–8 weeks to build and launch.

Shopify is the safest default for product-focused retail — the hosted infrastructure, merchant-friendly admin, and app ecosystem handle most requirements without custom engineering. WooCommerce wins when the business is content-first and already on WordPress. A headless build is justified when the checkout logic or content model genuinely exceeds what Shopify Plus can handle — which is rarer than the hype suggests.
A Shopify build on a premium template with customisation: £1,500–£3,500. A fully custom Shopify theme from scratch: £3,500–£9,000. A Shopify Plus build with custom checkout and multiple integrations: £8,000–£20,000. A headless ecommerce build: £15,000–£40,000+. These are development costs — platform subscription, app fees, and hosting are additional.
Yes. We handle migrations from Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom carts — including product data, customer accounts, historical orders, and redirect mapping to preserve SEO equity. We've run migrations where the redirect mapping work took longer than the build itself.
